My spiritual life doesn't fit under one name. I call it the green path, or the middle way. People have described it in one form or another across many traditions and faiths, for as long as there have been stories. I walk it as Merlin the Green.
"There is truth to be found in every faith, but no one faith holds all of it."
Merlin the Green
I'm not fully of the physical world, and I'm not fully of the spiritual one either. I move back and forth between the upper, middle and lower worlds, and I don't always get a say in when. For a long time that was confusing. Now I accept it, and most days I'm grateful for it.
Merlin has worn a lot of faces in the old stories and the cards: the wanderer, the wild man, the sorcerer, the fool, the hanged man. I see some of myself in each one.
Most of the time I just go by merlin, all in lower case. I first learned this from the Peoples of the Salmon: a one-word spiritual name is written in lower case. That suits me. I've never had much use for titles and labels.
Where it comes from
I got here through stories more than scripture. Myths, legends, the hero's journey, the gods and goddesses of a dozen pantheons. The more of them I read, the more they seemed to be pointing at the same things.
Druidry taught me to pay attention to the turning year and the trees. Taoism is a big part of how I think. Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Kabbalah, the old Celtic and Welsh ways, and earth-based paths like Wicca have all left their mark. I borrow from them with respect, and I don't claim to own any of them.
I believe in following your own path. Nobody gets to hand you a finished map, and I won't try to hand you mine.
Conversations about life
A lot of what I offer here happens in long conversations. Sometimes one on one, sometimes in small circles, sometimes over hours, where two people end up helping each other with life and everything else that comes up. Those talks tend to shape my work far more than my work shapes them.
I share what I've lived, and you take what fits. I don't give advice nobody asked for, and I'm not here to convert anyone. If you ask what I think, I'll tell you honestly and with care. Everyone gets to choose their own beliefs, freely, and that includes you.
