When people hear the word druid, they reach for the costume — white robes, mistletoe, stone circles at dawn. I understand the pull. The imagery is beautiful.
But the path I walk has very little to do with costume.
Attention as the first practice
Druidry, for me, begins with attention. It is the deliberate practice of noticing what is actually here — the wind, the bark, the particular quality of light at four in the afternoon in early autumn — and letting it matter.
Most of our suffering comes not from what we experience, but from how rarely we actually experience it. We are elsewhere. The practice is to come back.
Not worship, but relationship
I do not worship the forest. I am in relationship with it. The difference is everything. Worship places the other above you; relationship places you beside it. One makes you small. The other makes you responsible.
To stand among old trees is to stand in the presence of a slowness the modern world has forgotten how to keep.
You do not need a robe for this. You need only a willingness to stay.
